چکیده
Abstract Detrital zircon geochronology has rapidly evolved into a powerful tool for reconstructing the assembly and dispersal processes of supercontinents. Currently, history Gondwanaland remains highly controversial. Here we focus on detrital Gondwana (Carboniferous–Permian Kokaha Diamictite Jurassic–Cretaceous Sapt Koshi Formation) post-Gondwana (Miocene Tamrang sequences Lesser Himalaya in eastern Nepal. U-Pb dating results show that Carboniferous–Permian sequence peaks at 544 Ma, 890 1178 1752 Ma. Likewise, 531 947 1176 Ma 1806 along with much younger peak 123 Similarly, Miocene 526 987 1740 Comparing these newly obtained ages those surrounding regions, confirm during Carboniferous–Permian, Indian continent was still connected to Gondwana. The age distribution coincides Tethys Himalaya, which further suggests possibility this unit either shared same provenance or recycled from Himalaya. During early Mesozoic, plate rifted drifted northward, as evidenced by Triassic–Jurassic, rift-related magmatism continental margin. Remarkably, there were significant inputs Rajmahal Basalt deposition sequence. Besides, records large number zircons closely resemble Greater implies may have already been uplifted eroded then.

Detrital Zircon Geochronology by Laser-ablation Multicollector Icpms at the Arizona Laserchron Center
Detrital zircon geochronology is rapidly evolving into a very powerful tool for determining the provenance and maximum depositional age of clastic strata. This rapid evolution is being driven by the increased availability of ion probes and laser ablation ICP mass spectrometers, which are able to generate age determinations rapidly, at moderate to low cost, and of sufficient accuracy for most ap...
متن کاملIntegrated tectonostratigraphic analysis of the Himalaya and implications for its tectonic reconstruction
The isotope geochronology of isochronously deposited Cambrian strata from different tectonostratigraphic zones of the Himalaya confirms new stratigraphic, sedimentological, and faunal evidence indicating that the Himalaya was a single continental margin prior to collision of India with Asia. Lesser, Greater, and Tethyan Himalaya represent proximal to distal parts of a passive continental margin...
متن کاملThermal metamorphism in the lesser Himalaya of Nepal determined from Raman spectroscopy of carbonaceous material
The determination of metamorphic conditions is critical to the understanding of the formation of mountain belts. However, all collisional mountain belts contain large volumes of accreted sediments generally lacking metamorphic index minerals and are therefore not amenable to conventional petrologic investigations. By contrast, these units are often rich in carbonaceous material, making it possi...

East-derived sandstones contain a 23 suite of zircons with a mean age of ca 487 Ma that suggests derivation fr...
متن کاملU-Pb zircon geochronology of major lithologic units in the eastern Himalaya: Implications for the origin and assembly of Himalayan rocks
Models for the origin and deformation of Himalayan rocks are dependent upon geometric and age relationships between major units. We present fi eld mapping and U-Pb dating of igneous and detrital zircons that establish the lithostratigraphic architecture of the eastern Himalaya, revealing that: (1) the South Tibet detachment along the BhutanChina border is a top-to-the-north ductile shear zone; ...
